Describe yourself in 3 words.
Mama.Latina.Curandera.(healer)
Tell us your story.
I’m a mami, wife, storyteller, and magic maker. I’m the former Co-President of Latina Media Ventures, an Emmy-nominated host, certified yoga teacher, and life coach.
I’m currently writing a new book, “Finding My Magic,” which is a journey of re-discovery and reclamation of both my culture and myself. I live in Cold Spring, New York, with my two daughters, Olive and Freja, and my Swedish hubby, Sven.
Which women inspired you as a young girl?
Jennifer Lopez and Salma Hayek inspired me endlessly as a young Latina. You can’t be what you can’t see, so to see them go after their dreams and succeed had a profound effect on me.
Which women inspire you now?
Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. I love her spirit and swagger!
She is a warrior and does it all while wearing hoops and red lipstick!

What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment to date?
I’ve run a big company, hosted my own show, written three books, been on the Today Show about 50 times—but my two daughters are hands-down my best creation. I recently left a “very important” full-time job to take a career break to reconnect with myself, family, and culture. It has been the most transforming thing I have ever done. We should honor the pause more.
What do you like the most about yourself?
My bravery. I’m scared most of the time about nearly everything, but I still always take the leap.
What are your greatest passions?
Raising grounded and whole children, being a present and loving partner and friend and sister, writing, being in nature, and healing myself through all of the above.
What is your perfect day?
Waking up after a full night’s rest—meaning my kids slept through the night!
Cuddles with my hubby, coffee, yoga, hiking with friends in the woods by my house, writing,
solitude, cuddles with the kiddos, smelling their hair, good food, fire (in winter and summer),
stargazing, and maybe some vino.
Have you had female mentors?
Absolutely.
NY Times best-selling author and entrepreneur Nely Galan is a trusted mentor. I have a circle of wise comadres I can count on.

Do you mentor other women?
Definitely! I always reply to all my direct messages on Instagram
and have mentored countless women over the years in media and beyond.

Who is your beauty inspiration?
Frida Kahlo. J Lo. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. All bold Latina beauties.
How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
Five minutes—I have my routine down! All I ever really need is mascara, moisturizer, and a little essential oil!
Do you enjoy wearing makeup?
I do. I love soft, dewy looks for every day,
but am definitely feeling myself when I have on lashes and red lipstick!
As you get older, do you wear more or less makeup?
Less. I used to wear blush, now I don’t. And my skin is good, so now I only want to enhance it, not cover it up.
THOUGHTS ON AGING
What do you like most about getting older?
I literally fall more in love with myself every passing year. I love what I’ve accomplished and what I still have yet to create. It’s such a grounding feeling when you know and love yourself exactly as you are.
Do you think older women are valued and celebrated?
I think we need to celebrate ourselves. The more we see women out there doing their thing and shining bright in all decades, we can begin to love all the points in our evolution.
Which women do you admire for aging with grace and integrity?
I love Dolores Huerta. She is an iconic activist who is almost 90 years old and she is still out there protesting and raising hell. She defies what we think about women and aging, becoming more magnetic and commanding with age. She’s on my altar. I bow to her bad-assery.

FEW OF MY FAVORITES
Song:
Any song by Selena.
Book/Novel:
“Women Who Run with The Wolves” by Clarissa Pinkola Estés.
It’s about women reclaiming their power and wild, intuitive, and creative nature.
This is a book you come back to again and again to find your soul.
Film:
I’m currently obsessed with Roma from Alfonso Cuarón.
The main actress, Yalitza Aparicio, is an indigenous Mixtec from Oaxaca
and never acted before starring in the film, which earned her an Oscar nomination.
She didn’t have to do anything but be her beautiful self
and opportunity came to her—love that!
Flower:
I’m from Texas, so bluebonnets remind me of spring and home.
Scent:
I love oils, like the sandalwood-scented No.04 Bois de Balincourt.
I also like layering coconut oil with a hint of patchouli.
Place in the world:
There is a waterfall I can walk to eight minutes from my house.
I love going there and sitting on a rock, listening to the water.
To me, the expanse of the Texas Hill Country feels like home and Sweden in the summer
when the sun never seems to set is magical. And, really, any beach.
Anywhere I’m in nature, with my family, and in my body, I feel rooted and happy.
Food/Meal/Cuisine:
Mexican all day, every day.
I’m a new vegan, so I’m loving recipes from “Decolonizing Your Diet,” which is about how eating the foods of your ancestors inspires more health and innovation in your cooking.
Artist:
Frida Kahlo. Her clothes, rebellion, and irrepressible talent and tragedy. She is living art.
What advice do you have for today’s young women?
All those things you’re worried about aren’t real.
Stop wasting time fretting over imagined nonsense and unfounded fears.
Start living your one wild and precious life!
