Describe yourself in 3 words.

Hardworking. Loyal. Street-smart.

Tell us your story.
I grew up in Holmdel, NJ. I always felt pulled to New York City, so after graduating from Wesley College with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Communication and a minor in Marketing, I wasted no time moving there. I had less than $500 in my pocket and my goal was to get a job – any job – working in the film/TV industry. I was confident once I had my foot in the door, I could work my way up. My first job paid nothing. My next job paid next to nothing. But, eventually, my hard work and networking skills paid off. After working as a costume assistant on Woody Allen’s “Deconstructing Harry,” Howard Stern’s “Private Parts,” and Ron Howard’s “Ransom,” I was offered a job as wardrobe assistant on the TV show “Spin City.” This was my first permanent role and I was mentored by Patricia Field, the head designer. This experience provided access to producers, writers, and directors in the industry and built up my confidence and knowledge.

I made a name for myself as a go-to, get-it-done person, which led to more
challenging positions. I now have a widespread network of friends and colleagues in the industry and have worked on blockbuster movies, award-winning TV programs, and Broadway plays.

Which women inspired you as a young girl?
My mom, because she showed me what it means to love unconditionally, that hard work pays off and that,
at the same time, you can be stylish and confident.

Which women inspire you now?
Women who are brave enough to speak out about being sexually harassed and women who won’t be treated like second-class citizens.
I am inspired by glass-ceiling breakers.

What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment to date?
Professionally, I would say being the costume designer for the Ed Burns independent period film “Summertime.” What a fantastic feeling to see all my hard work on the silver screen! It gave me the confidence to voice my opinions, even when they contradicted those of the director and producer. I was able to explain why I thought we should dress the actor differently, while still being respectful of their positions, and convince them the changes made sense. I’m also very proud of maintaining an upward career trajectory while raising wonderful identical twins.

What do you like the most about yourself?
I take my job and responsibilities seriously, but that doesn’t mean I can’t have fun and laugh.
I’m always up for trying new fun things.

What are your greatest passions?
I keep an open mind and enjoy all that life has to offer. I love skiing and most of our family vacations are ski trips. I’ve always been into music. I played the piano for about 10 years as a child and am currently teaching myself the harmonica. I think I’m getting pretty good.

What is your perfect day?
Skiing with my family on a bluebird day. Sun, good snow, laughter, and being together.

Have you had female mentors?
Yes, early in my career I was lucky to work with successful women who made the time for me and encouraged me to take on more responsibilities. I have always learned as much as I could from my bosses. The confidence of these women in leadership roles inspired me to be better.

Do you mentor other women?
I always make time to mentor those who are in the same position I was in early in my career. When someone I hire does a great job, I will do whatever I can to get them to the next level.

Who is your beauty inspiration?
Carmen Dell’Orefice. She is still rocking at 87 and has never lacked confidence and style.

How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
45 minutes. Being a fashion lover, I spend most of this time sorting my wardrobe.
And I never leave the house without perfume.

Do you enjoy wearing makeup?
Yes. I like that it makes me look and feel pulled together.

As you get older, do you wear more or less makeup?
Less. My day to day is minimal, however, if I have a special function

I will play and definitely put more on.

THOUGHTS ON AGING

What do you like most about getting older?
Not being afraid of being myself and embracing all life experiences, past, present, and future.
Facing fears head-on.

Do you think older women are valued and celebrated?
Yes, there is a growing trend of empowerment that is opening society’s eyes and allowing older women finally to be recognized for their significant contributions.

“Which women do I admire for aging with grace and integrity?

Any woman who owns
who she is,
is comfortable in her own skin
and doesn’t believe
she needs to look younger.”

What advice do you have for today’s young women?
Grow old gracefully, don’t fight it, embrace it, own it, and don’t stop moving forward.
Also, work hard, travel, and don’t forget to treat yourself.
Don’t sweat the small stuff.

Don’t be afraid to fall in love.
